Christmas Busking

Party in the Streets!

Party in the Streets!

We get awfully busy up to Christmas – gigging Friday, Saturday and Sunday, rehearsing in the week, and then going busking every day we can… Why? Because we love it! What can be more fun than playing music all day? And whenever anyone tells us we’ve made their Christmas shopping a bit more enjoyable, well, that’s just like having our bellies filled with mulled wine.

So far this Christmas we’ve visited Leeds, Sheffield, York and Lincoln, including the Lincoln Christmas market, which was so busy I felt like a lost child! It was great – these places are so full of history. The walk up ‘Steep Hill’ in Lincoln was really beautiful, and it definitely lives up to its name!

That’s one of the best things about busking, and being a musician in general, you get to visit places you’d normally never see – towns, cities, the countryside, and some of the wedding venues we visit are so amazing that we feel very privileged to play there.

Not only do we love busking, but it’s a great promotional tool for us – the amount of people that come over to give compliments or get in touch with us with us online afterwards is really heart-warming. Nick Hodgson, the (now-ex) drummer from the Kaiser Chiefs tweeted us yesterday after he caught us in Leeds – very cool! Although, on a side note, I feel that I should answer a question once and for all and declare that we will not be going on X-factor at any point, so come on folks, stop asking! (Ah, we do appreciate it really!).

As it stands, we’re busking in Sheffield and Leeds this week, and then we’ve got a run of 8 gigs in 11 days, ending with a wedding in Alnwick on New Year’s Eve that we think is going to be brilliant! We’re staying at “The Hog’s Head Inn” afterwards, named after the famous inn featured in Harry Potter. We may even visit the castle while we’re there – who knows! There’s a lot to look forward to.

I hope all of you have a lovely Christmas. If you asked Santa for a guitar, a drum-kit, or even a harmonica, then you’re welcome to party with us. And hopefully, if you caught us busking, we’ll see you again soon!
